Field/Construction Inspector

JOB DESCRIPTION

Earth Data Incorporated has an immediate, full-time opening for a highly motivated field inspector for its Hampton Roads, Virginia field office.

Responsibilities and requirements:

  • A completed four-year academic degree in Geology/Environmental Science or a closely related technical discipline preferred and excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Serve as resident inspector during the construction and testing of deep, large diameter wells.

  • Experience with construction of utility infrastructure projects, especially water projects; observing contractor's construction activities; and reviewing work for compliance with drawings and specifications.

  • Knowledge of, and ability to interpret, engineering drawings, technical specifications, contract requirements, and construction details.

  • Responsibilities will include observing that the work is completed in general accordance with the drawings and specifications, daily field reporting, tracking contractor's installed quantities, witnessing tests, documenting test results and serving as liaison between engineer, contractor, and adjacent residents and businesses.

  • Be available for overnight work to perform drilling inspection.

  • Review and correct typed logs, boring profiles, and drafted media.

  • Perform site reconnaissance as necessary.

  • Assist in verifying drilling contractor quantities/invoices.

  • Review field and typed boring logs and boring profiles for accuracy and in accordance with specifications.

  • Understand and be able to use the Company filing system within the first week of employment.

  • Follow instructions and complete assignments, as directed.

  • Attendance at Company meetings, as necessary.

  • Organize and maintain office paperwork and/or digital files.

  • Correspond with Clients and staff, as requested.

  • Use appropriate public relations when dealing with co-workers, clients, observers, and the public.

  • Work in a team environment.

  • Meet with clients, attend project meetings, and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Ability to work diverse shifts.

  • Ability to document on-site construction activity using a cloud-based reporting platform to ensure adherence to approved plans and specifications.

Hydrogeologist

JOB DESCRIPTION

Earth Data Incorporated has an immediate, full-time opening for a highly motivated mid-level hydrogeologist to join our team.

Responsibilities and requirements:

  • Degree in geology, hydrogeology or related field.

  • P.G. license and ability to obtain in Delaware and Virginia within 6 months.

  • Solid understanding of hydrogeological principles and practices in the Mid-Atlantic region. Experience with developing MODFLOW-based groundwater models is a plus. 

  • Analyze data using a variety of techniques such as GIS, geostatistics, statistics, or time-series analysis.

  • Analyze aquifer pumping test data and interpret borehole geophysical data and apply these skills to project problems, including assessing the potential impacts of groundwater withdrawals on nearby users and the resource. 

  • Experience obtaining and evaluating well construction, borehole geophysical and pumping test data related to the construction, development and testing of deep, large diameter production wells, primarily in unconsolidated sediments. 

  • Knowledge of and practical applied experience designing, constructing, and sampling groundwater monitoring wells.

  • Knowledge of and practical applied experience sampling surface water structures.

  • Groundwater and surface water appropriation permitting.

  • Knowledge of and practical applied experience planning and conducting straddle packer testing in wells completed in karst geologic environments. 

  • Ability to function as a technical specialist and/or project manager on a variety of projects.

  • Interact with and provide technical support to an experienced staff of geologists, engineers, GIS technicians and field technicians.

  • Provide project and task management support; collect, analyze, manage and present data in reports, memos and public forums; lead production of technical reports; assist in developing and reviewing specifications for groundwater supply projects. 

  • Demonstrate superior task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, following up, and keeping project information organized.

  • Demonstrate superior analytical skills.

  • Assist in state and local-level water use permitting efforts. Familiarity with Mid-Atlantic regulatory and geology agencies (MDE, MGS, DNREC, DGS, VADEQ, VDH, PADEP, SRBC, DRBC) is desirable.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and client management skills.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, including some short-term, intermittent travel and field work.

Water Resources Engineer

Earth Data Incorporated has an immediate, full-time opening for a highly motivated Water Resources Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities and requirements:

  • Degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering or related field.

  • PE license and ability to obtain in Maryland and Virginia within 6 months.

  • Experience with the construction, development and testing of deep, large diameter production wells, primarily in unconsolidated sediments. MAR or ASR well drilling experience is a plus.

  • Experience with the design, installation and testing of submersible and vertical turbine pumps and motors. 

  • Excellent oral and written communication and client management skills.

  • Ability to make decisions on significant water supply planning, design and engineering procedures.

  • Function as technical specialist and/or project manager on a variety of water supply projects.

  • Interact with and provide technical support to an experienced staff of engineers, geologists, GIS technicians and field technicians.

  • Provide project engineering and task management; collect, assimilate and present data in reports, memos and public forums; lead production of design calculations and technical reports; lead preparation of engineering plans and specifications for the design of water supply facilities. 

  • Demonstrate superior task management skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, following up, and keeping project information organized.

  • Demonstrate superior problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Assist in state and local-level water resources permitting efforts.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
